Handquilting Workshop

Yesterday I had a really good time trying to learn the art of handquilting in a workshop with Dr. Andrea Schneider. While I often prefer to learn new things from books, this is one of the things where it really pays to learn from a teacher who can show you how it works and correct what you’re doing. So, here’s the result:
My stitches are huge and wonky, but I think I got the idea on how this should work, and the rest is nothing lots of practice can’t fix. While I’m not much of a traditional quilter, many of my quilts have some traditional elements, and I’d love to be able to handquilt those parts to give them that traditional look you definitely can’t get with a sewing machine. And it definitely is a nice change of pace as opposed to fighting with a huge piece of fabric under the sewing machine.
