Star in needlepoint lace

I made this star in needlepoint lace over the holidays. The inspiration came from an old needlework book that’s been reprinted as Handarbeiten wie zu Großmutters Zeiten. There different squares and other forms with the typical geometric layout of reticella lace are shown. I thought the geometrical forms could be nicely adapted to regular pattern such as a star. The technical details of execution were taken from Valerie Grimwoods’ Starting needlepoint lace, which has very clear instructions on how to make different types of lace. The contour of the star is lined with thin wire, so the ornament keeps its form and could be used for example as a tree decoration for Christmas.Making this went faster than I expected, and I’m pretty pleased with the result.
